HOW TO DANCE TURNS
1. HOW TO LEAD TURNS: LIFT THE CURTAIN
OUTSIDE TURNS
Leader, let go of your right hand and arm connection. Now bring your left hand connection diagonally up and out to your left, as if you were lifting up a curtain for your follower to go under or holding up an umbrella. The follower will feel a tendency to go under this left hand. We call this an outside turn as your hand moves outside of the couple to initiate the turn.
During the turn, loosen your left hand so that your follower’s hand can slide easily around it and then click back into position when the turn is completed. No need to try to control the details of what happens with your fingers in this connection. She will reconnect completely at the end of the turn. A soft touch allows hands to slide around each other easily and back in place.
